2011 is merely days away.  This is significant to Superman fans because it means that production on Zack Snyder’s reboot of the Superman franchise will begin in earnest, for its eventual release in 2012.  Details on most aspects of the film are extremely limited.  No casting has been announced, and not many rumours have surfaced….yet.  No one, apart from the creative team behind the film knows what the plot will even entail.  However, there is something new we do know about the film.  Being a Canadian I am excited that Zack Snyder, his crew members, and the cast will film the next Superman adventure here in Canada, specifically in Vancouver. “[Zack Snyder’s] next feature’s coming here,” said Peter Leitch, chair of the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of BC and president of North Shore Studios and Mammoth Studios “Superman isn’t directly mentioned in the quote, but everyone who follows film news knows that Superman is next up on Zack Snyder’s agenda.  The man said as much when he was announced as director a couple of months ago.   Vancouver should be familiar to Superman fans, as Smallville is filmed there.  I like Smallville’s rendition of Metropolis and how they blend the real city with cgi to create Metropolis.

Now before some fans start over-reacting and hyperventilating, just calm down.  I know what you’re thinking.  You’re sitting in front of your computer gasping for air and saying to yourself, “OMG! Smallville is filmed in Vancouver!  It’s fate, Tom Welling is destined to play Superman in the new movie.” That assumption is flat out wrong, so if you’re thinking that, grab your oxygen masks, and calm down.  I am not for, or against Tom playing Superman on the big screen, but the fact that the television show, and the film are shot in the same city doesn’t guarantee anything.  One thing is certain, Superman will fly through the skies of Vancouver, but it may not be on Smallville, and it may not be Tom Welling.
