After watching the series finale of Smallville, did your mind start wondering what would happen next for this incarnation of Superman?  Mine did, and now thanks to an announcement from DC Comics, fans thinking along the same lines won’t have to wonder much longer.  DC Comics has announced the Smallville: Season 11 comic book series.  The series will be released digitally first in April, followed by a periodical print release starting in May.  The Comic book publisher has described the series as follows;

“The new comic book series picks-up where the show left off (with Clark officially now as Superman!) and features other fan-favorite characters including Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Chloe Sullivan-Queen, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and General Lane.  The book features an all-star creative team – in addition to Miller, SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 creators include print cover artist Gary Frank (SUPERMAN SECRET ORIGIN), digital cover artist Cat Staggs and interiors by Pere Perez (BATGIRL).”

I know I’ve done my fair share of lamenting where this show is concerned in the past.  Deep down though, I love the show.  It revitalized my interest in Superman and carried the character through some lacking times in the books. Smallville at its core is an alternate take on the mythology, an elseworlds if you will.  The show has often taken a divergent path from the core comic books.  So how things turn out for this version of Superman aren’t as predictable, or set in stone as you might think.  More often than not, I liked the shows spin on the other heroes and villains Clark encountered in the series.  It will be interesting to see how that continues and evolves in the comic book.  I’m personally hoping to see Smallville’s take on Batman at some point in the future.  I like the creative team involved.  Thakfully, Al Gough and Miles Millar are not involved, so we can be assured of flights and tights.  I will definitely be giving this comic book series a try.  Even though his journey has come to an end on television, Clark Kent’s never-ending battle will continue where it all began!
