There was a lot of wondering and guessing as to how “Man of Steel” would perform during its opening weekend in theaters? Well wonder no more. The numbers are in and Superman’s off to a flying start. “Man of Steel” set an opening weekend record for the month of June collecting $116,725,000. When adding in the Thursday night pre-show figures, the Superman origin film has swooped up a total of $128,725,000 across North America. “Man of Steel” opened in 24 foreign markets, only 3 of which are considered large and dominated, earning 71,600,000. Worldwide, Superman has tucked a grand total of $200,325,000 under his cape. The new movie has garnered mixed reviews from “professional” critics, but the general movie going audience appears to think otherwise. With a CinemaScore rating of A-, an IMDB user rating of 8.2/10 and a Metacritic user rating of 8.5/10 audiences are willing to take flight with this cinematically fresh version of the Last Son of Krypton. This word of mouth will hopefully lead to a long and profitable run at the box office leading to future Superman films, and an expanded DC Comics film Universe, and the long-planned for Justice League film!
