Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel faced stiff competition from some Disney Monsters that apparently got a high level of education, and a Brad Pitt zombie movie, whose title sounds as if Zorro took his efforts global more than a zombie movie. Even with the heavy competition, the Superman reboot managed to add 41,215,000 in North America. In 10 days of release the film has earned $210,078,153. Having opened in more markets internationally, the films foreign total has risen to $188,300,000. Man of Steel has flown to a worldwide total of $398,378,153. What this means is that in 10 days of release, Man of Steel has already out-grossed what Batman Begins and Superman Returns grossed in their entire theatrical runs, both domestically and abroad. Even if you adjust for inflation, this outcome will occur in short order. In terms of how Man of Steel is performing in relation to several Marvel counterparts, let’s have a look. Man of Steel has out performed X-Men: First Class, X-Men, X-Men Origins Wolverine. In terms of Marvel movies owned by Marvel Studio’s, Man of Steel has outperformed The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger. The only solo Marvel character franchises that have out performed Man of Steel to date are the Spider-Man franchise and the Iron Man franchise. It’s worth noting that Spider-Man is equally as well known among mainstream audiences as Batman and Superman. It is my belief that the main reason Iron Man is popular among the non comic book audience is because of Robert Downey Jr. So next time a Marvel zombie says “Marvel is kicking DC’s ass at the box office”, feel free to point out some of what I’ve presented here. The reality is, from a box office point of view, aside from Robert Downey Jr and Spider – Man, no Marvel character compares to the Man of Steel!
