A couple of weeks ago a photo of a sculpt of Superman’s torso appeared on the internet. Fans everywhere jumped to the conclusion that it was some sort of proto-type for a tweaked Superman costume, for “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Turns out we jumped to the wrong conclusion. As outdoor filming takes place this week in Michigan, new images have surface showing a large Superman statue being erected in front of a green screen (visual effects added later.) In the comic books, the presence of a Superman statue in Metropolis, is typically associated with “The Death of Superman” story. The statue was erected in honour of Superman sacrificing his life to save Metropolis, from the monstrous killing rage monster Doomsday. Months ago, there were rumors that Doomsday would be a villain in this film. This image will add fuel to that fire amongst members of the fan base. However, it’s most likely a tribute from the City of Metropolis to Superman, for saving the city, and the world from Zod’s Kryptonian invasion in “Man of Steel”
Also, this week marks the beginning of filming for actor Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. As a result, our first image of the building that will serve as LexCorp has surfaced. The company itself is described as “a young, edgy company. Think of it as a .com or Google type workplace. It’s a smart company with a stylish vibe, a youthful clash of rock and roll, preppy, and nerdy employees.” That certainly makes a lot of sense given the world we live in today. Also, it insures that as far as the big screen is concerned, we won’t be getting a Lex Luthor that has a land fetish. That my friends, is a very good thing.
