Ever since December, Jason Momoa’s name has been coming up in conjunction with “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.” The Hollywood Reporter even stated that he was in negotiations for a role. Fan speculation has connected him to Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, & Doomsday, Despite The Hollywood Reporter piece, the actor himself has denied any involvement in the film. This is of course, standard practice in Hollywood for an actor, or director to deny involvement in a high-profile project, only to be officially confirmed at a later date. See “Star Trek: Into Darkness”, “The Dark Knight Rises” and “Man of Steel” for examples. According to Drew McWeeny of HitFix, even though it hasn’t been confirmed by the studio, Jason Momoa has been cast as Aquaman. The role will be small for now, but will be expanded for “Justice League.” According to the site, director “Zack Snyder has already finalized his designs for the character so shooting can take place soon.” Even more interesting is how the character of Aquaman will be brought into the film, which is a direct result of what happened in “Man of Steel.” Apparently, the King of Atlantis “is not pleased about the World Engine and what it did to the Indian Ocean.”
If this is true, and Drew McWeeny from HitFix does have a solid track record in the scoop game, then I like the choice. Aquaman, even though many view the character as a joke, is actually a bad ass character. See “The New 52” & “Injustice: God’s Among Us” for proof. Jason Momoa is known for playing bad ass characters. See “Stargate: Atlantis”, “Conan”, and “Game of Thrones.” Stay tuned for if and when, Warner Brothers provides official confirmation.
UPDATE: Both The Hollywood Reporter & Variety are reporting that Jason Momoa has indeed been cast as Aquaman!
